The opportunity

This role, within a team of investigators/auditors, undertakes activities designed to maximise compliance with Victoria's revenue laws and ensure revenue is collected when it is due. As entry level roles specifically related to payroll tax, land tax and stamp duty investigations/audits, this is a great opportunity for anyone considering beginning their career in the tax compliance field, or for individuals looking to return to this field. Extensive training is provided, including one-on-one mentoring.

Reporting to a Team Leader, you will:

  • Conduct assigned desktop investigations/audits, under guidance, using audit and investigative skills.
  • Quantify customers' tax liabilities and explaining to them the reasons for the decisions made as part of an investigation/audit.
  • Produce accurate reports on investigation/audit findings and negotiating appropriate outcomes with customers.
  • Be required to conduct field work on occasion

Who we are looking for

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • The ability to interpret and apply legislation.
  • Effective communication skills to provide clear and concise advice to all stakeholders.
  • Professional customer service skills to consult with customers and identify needs and negotiate outcomes
  • Some theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in applying a range of investigative/audit skills and techniques to obtain information and evidence.
  • A tertiary qualification or demonstrated commitment to tertiary studies in a relevant discipline (highly desirable).
