As a Casual Mental Health and Disability Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in assisting individuals to achieve their personal goals, enhance their independence, and improve their overall quality of life. Your responsibilities will be including but not limited to:
- Providing one-on-one support to clients in their homes (Domestic Assistance: meal preparations, cleaning, laundry, and companionship) or Social Support (transporting to appointments, shopping, or community outings) or Personal Care (showering, toileting, and overall personal hygiene maintenance).
- Developing and implementing individualised care plans tailored to each client's unique needs and goals.
- Offering emotional support and companionship to individuals facing mental health challenges.
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team (GP, OT, Support Coordinator, Community Nurse, Social Worker, family etc) to ensure comprehensive and integrated care.
- Monitoring and documenting clients' progress, behaviours, and any changes in their condition by writing a shift report or progress note within 24 hours.
TO EXCEL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
- A genuine passion for improving the lives of individuals with physical disabilities or mental health concerns.
- A heart full of empathy, exceptional communication skills and the ability to truly listen and connect with others.
- Understanding of cultural sensitivity and ability to respect and value diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and the LGBTIQ community.
A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Qualifications in Disability Services/Mental Health. (Not required but you will be rewarded if you have any)
- Experience in mental health or disability. (Desirable but not mandatory)
- A valid Australian driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance (mandatory).
- A current Working with Children Check, National Police Check/ NDIS Worker Screening Check, and CPR with First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Must have COVID-19 vaccination certificate (Fully vaccinated -3 doses)
- Flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster comprising of morning, evening, active nights, sleepovers, and weekend shifts.
- A smartphone with internet access (essential).
