ABOUT THE ROLE

Connect Wanju (Connect and Welcome), a consortium between Palmerston Association Inc and Wungening Aboriginal Corporation, led by Palmerston Association, in partnership with the Department of Justice, delivers the General Court Intervention Program (GCIP) to improve access to treatment and support services for accused persons within the Court system.

Reporting to the Program Manager, Peer Workers provide a range of engagement, support and information to both GCIP participants and Case Workers through the perspective of relatable lived experiences. These roles enhance the facilitation of GCIP and aim to assist participants to meaningfully engage in the program and improve the experience by drawing on the knowledge and experience of living with and through their own social and cultural identities and/or experiences.

SELECTION CRITERIA (address these in your cover letter)

  • Notable experience and progression of personal experience in one or more of the following

o Criminogenic or justice related experience

o Cultural and community experience

o Alcohol and other drugs

o Mental Health

o Housing crisis

o Other areas which create recognition by participants as a peer

  • Able and willing to use your experience to inform your work and the work of the service.
  • Demonstrated adoption of strategies to self-manage.
  • Vocational or life experience displaying the ability to share experience and narrative in a positive way.
  • Experience working with people from a diverse set of backgrounds including those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • WA Working with Children Card
  • Police Clearance (dated within the last 3 months)
  • WA Drivers Licence
  • Department of Justice Screening (we'll help successful candidates to apply)
