Planning Officer

Permanent Part time opportunity (up to 60.8 hours a fortnight)

About the team

The Town's Planning and Regulation team is responsible for development control (assessment and determination of development, subdivision and building proposals), preparation and review of the local planning framework, including the local planning scheme, assessment and determination of building applications and development-related compliance and pool inspections. We achieve exceptional service through listening and responding to what our community values.

About the role

The role will give the successful applicant the opportunity to:

• Assist in formulating the strategic direction for the Town in relation to land-use planning and development.
• Assess development applications, subdivision applications, statutory planning frameworks and scheme amendment proposals, including the preparation of reports for presentation to Council and other decision-makers.
• Provide professional advice to internal and external customers on planning matters; including written planning advice, emails, in-person meetings, telephone enquiries and the provision of zoning certificates.
• Work cross-functionally with Engineering Services, Building Services, Environmental Health Services and Ranger Services to achieve compliance with conditions of approval and compliance with Local Planning Scheme requirements.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Manager Planning and Regulation and Senior Planning Officer.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent) or substantial progress towards such a qualification (essential).
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills (essential).
• Previous Local Government experience (desirable).
• Understanding of current WA Planning and related legislation, policies, and procedures (desirable).
• Current 'C' Class WA Drivers Licence.

Salary and Benefits

This Permanent, part-time position attracts an annual salary up to $87, pro rata) plus superannuation.

The Town also offers up to 4% additional superannuation (conditions apply), 17.5% leave loading, free parking, ongoing training and professional development, and up to two additional leave days per calendar year.

Working Hours

The position offers, up to 60.8 hours a fortnight. Flexibility options such as variable start/finish times & remote work may be negotiated for this role.
