About Xemplo
Xemplo is a technology company changing the way organisations hire, manage and engage their people. Our platform integrates compliance, payroll, onboarding and workforce management into a seamless experience that reduces risk and complexity for employers and empowers workers.
A key part of Xemplo's unique offering is our compliance-first approach. Unlike many HR technology providers, we embed automated contracts, workflows and policies into the product itself. This ensures businesses operate efficiently while staying aligned with legal requirements in a rapidly changing environment.
By joining Xemplo, you will contribute to shaping the future of work - making compliance smarter, more accessible and globally scalable.
What we're building
- A modern HR and payroll experience with in-product legal content, rules engines and guided workflows that turn complex regulation into clear decisions.
- Secure, scalable services for mid-market to enterprise customers, with strong data protection, auditability and pragmatic controls.
- A growing ecosystem of partners and integrations that helps maintain a reliable source of truth.
Purpose of the Role
Xemplo is the HR/Payroll platform that enables organisations to engage, orchestrate and pay workers with confidence. We are expanding our in-product legal library (contracts, policies, letters, handbooks and workflows) and seek an Employment Counsel to own, govern, and continuously improve this content so it is accurate, compliant, and practical for customers.
Key responsibilities
- Asset ownership: Draft, maintain, and publish employment and contractor templates, policies, letters, handbooks and workflows within Xemplo, with jurisdiction tags, review dates and versioned change logs.
- Guidance and workflows: Translate legal requirements into clear guidance, decision points and clause options (e.g., casual vs permanent, probation, award/EBA triggers) embedded within product workflows.
- Commercial support: Contribute to the modernisation of the SaaS MSA, Order Form, DPA (including SCCs), Security Schedule, Acceptable Use, and partner terms. Additionally prepare pragmatic fallback positions for Sales.
- Governance: Operate a publishing process with appropriate disclaimers and auditability.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work with Product, Security, Engineering and Customer Success to ensure content is correct, accessible and implemented accurately in product flows.
- Global extension: Partner with Xemplo's international network to extend compliance frameworks beyond Australia, informing the roadmap and localisation priorities.
- Professional standards: Work under the supervision of the General Counsel to ensure compliance with professional obligations and risk standards, escalating complex matters appropriately.
- Regulatory monitoring: Track legislative and regulatory changes and deliver updates within agreed SLAs, with clear communication of purpose and impact.
Qualifications and Experience
- Law degree and Australian practising certificate (mandatory).
- 2 to 4 years PQE in employment law/workplace relations (private practice or in-house).
- Demonstrated drafting excellence and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to convert complex legal requirements into practical templates and concise guidance.
- Curiosity about technology and AI, and an interest in how legal rules become product logic.
- Comfortable managing dual reporting lines (Legal + Product) and working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Desirable: exposure to awards/EBAs, privacy/DPAs or shipping legal content within a SaaS product.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to help build a platform that is transforming workforce compliance.
- Exposure to global employment law frameworks, not just Australian law.
- A role that is practical, hands-on, and impactful – your work will directly shape the product used by clients every day.
- Flexible working arrangements, with candidates considered Australia-wide.
