About Mater Dei
Mater Dei School is the original educational service of the Mater Dei Organisation. As one of ten schools that comprise Good Samaritan Education, it is a Catholic, independent school in the Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition. Mater Dei School is a coeducational setting for Kindergarten to Year 12 students with a mild to moderate intellectual disability.
Mater Dei School is committed to the provision of contemporary and innovative education for students with intellectual disability and diverse needs. Teachers at Mater Dei deliver the NESA curriculum by implementing high impact teaching practices to engage all students. Positive student wellbeing is embedded across the school through the implementation of the Berry Street Education Model.
Position Summary
Classroom Teachers at Mater Dei are currently responsible to the Principal through the Deputy Principal. It is an expectation that the Classroom Teacher is open to teaching across all Learning Areas and may be required to teach Infants, Primary and/or Secondary students. Both experienced teachers with NESA Proficient Accreditation and pre-service teachers with current NESA Conditional Accreditation to Teach will be considered.
Essential Selection Criteria
• Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, the charism of Good Samaritan Education
• Have current NESA accreditation and registration to work in a NSW school, including Conditional or Provisional accreditation.
• Ability to collaboratively plan, program and deliver for the diverse needs of students.
• Apply knowledge of the diverse needs of students to support their full participation in learning
• Ability to use data to assess, inform and evaluate the learning process.
• Use high impact teaching strategies in classroom practice
• Demonstrate sensitivity to the differing needs of students and their families including privacy, confidentiality, and diversity
• Demonstrate the ability to engage professionally with colleagues, parent/carers, and the wider school community

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team
• Strong organisational skills
The following experience, skills and attributes are desirable:
• Special Education qualifications
• Experience teaching students with Intellectual Disabilities
• Creating and implementing Universally Designed teaching and learning experiences
Working With Children Clearance
This role is classified as child related work and therefore a Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance is required prior to employment at Mater Dei School.
A Criminal History check Is also required by the successful applicant (coordinated by Mater Dei)
