We specialise in owner operator and SME transport insurance, delivering tailored commercial packages digitally via Sunrise to the intermediated market. We're looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Underwriter ready to take ownership of complex risks, drive broker engagement, and deliver profitable portfolio growth in a fast-paced, innovative environment. We're open to candidates based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne, with some national travel required.

About The Successful Applicant

• 7+ years' experience in underwriting with demonstrated senior-level capability; experience in Heavy Motor or Motor insurance with a niche market focus is highly regarded.
• Strong technical expertise and ability to make sound, confident underwriting decisions.
• Proven leadership experience to mentor, coach and uplift underwriting capability.
• Proven ability of growing business through lasting broker relationships.
• Ability to analyse portfolio performance and implement strategies to drive profitability, informed by a deep understanding of niche insurance markets and industry trends.
• Excellent communication, both written and verbal, to engage brokers, internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Adaptable, innovative, and committed to delivering results
• Industry recognised qualification required, such as CIP, CPCU, ANZIIF or equivalent
• Tertiary qualification in business, finance, risk management or relevant alternative desirable

What does the role entail?
Senior Underwriting

• Review, analyse, oversee daily underwriting activities
• Underwrite larger, high risk and complex heavy motor risks within delegated authority
• Drive new business by building and nurturing transport Broker relationships.
• Manage premium calculations for new business and larger portfolio renewals, ensuring compliance with the rating system, underwriting licence and guidelines.
• Partner with the Underwriting Team Leader to streamline workflows and ensure service excellence.
• Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of learning and expertise development.

Portfolio Monitoring and Performance

• Assess portfolio heath and pricing, with the Underwriting Team Leader.
• Review broker performance and proactively engage to support growth and sustainability
• Lead projects including rating adjustments, appetite reviews, and new product initiatives.
• Analyse competitor activity and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
• Identify process improvements and implement practical solutions.
• Identify and review policies after claims events to ensure accurate risk assessment and implement improvements

Broker Development & Stakeholder Engagement

• Develop, and deliver, broker training modules to strengthen underwriting expertise and promote ATL products.
• Lead broker meetings, presenting insights and solutions that drive business growth initiatives.
• Partner with brokers to identify opportunities, address challenges, and enhance commercial transport portfolios.
• Collaborate with internal teams (such as Claims and Product) to strengthen underwriting and market offerings.
• Build and strengthen relationships with key broker partners to drive market growth and adoption of new products.
• Champion ATL product initiatives, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment across internal and external stakeholders
