Senior Infrastructure Engineer

• Australian Citizens with an active NV1 Government Security Clearance
• Hybrid opportunity based in Canberra, ACT
• Initial 12 month contract starting in November 2025

Implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services. Use your in-depth knowledge of specific ICT Platforms to provide expert advice on the management and maintenance of those platforms.

Work closely with key third party suppliers to ensure the provision of a robust gateway infrastructure capability for the business and liaise with architecture and shared services areas to ensure the security of the day-to-day technical operations.

Duties:

• Design/evaluate/implement infrastructure requirements to meet future infrastructure demand
• Provide expert technical support for project build, test and solution deployment activities
• Prepare, review and maintain documentation which may include design documentation, implementation plans, test plans, and support procedures
• Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, operational policy and procedures and change initiatives
• Participate in change management process and communicate the end-to-end implications of configuration changes
• Provide detailed, specialist technical advice, including strategic advice to the senior executive
• Proactively share knowledge and expertise as the subject matter expert, and aid and mentorship to less experienced colleagues
• Undertake research on emerging technologies and provide recommendations on product suitability for the agency
• Engage and partner with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability
• Attend interagency meetings and forums to influence business outcomes and share information
• Encourage innovation, continuous improvement and manage and support change and influence and contribute to ICT strategy resolving conflicts as needed
• Manage the operation of backup, high availability and disaster recovery solutions for IT systems
• Manage the regular maintenance of patches and support packages for all technical layers
• Manage the administration and operation of the Gateway network kit

Skills Required:

• 5+ years demonstrated experience in the design, management and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large scale data centre networking environment.
• Demonstrated experience and technical proficiency in the design of services utilising F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems.
• Demonstrated experience in the design and deployment of network infrastructure including Cisco Data centre technologies like Cisco ACI, Cisco Routers, nexus switches, routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, EIGRP.
• Demonstrated experience with and/or detailed understanding of Palo Alto firewalls and IPS Solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of VPN technologies, email and DNS (Infoblox) Solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in the design and integration of hybrid and public cloud services.
• Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of system architecture and design documentation.
• Demonstrated experience with or knowledge of Australian Government information security policies, the ASD Information Security Manual and Essential Eight.
