About us

The Public Health Communications and Behaviour Change (PHaB) team is part of the Ministry's Strategic Communications and Engagement Branch. We lead state-wide communication and behaviour change initiatives that help people in NSW stay healthier, make informed decisions, and access the right care at the right time.

We:

  • Deliver evidence-based social marketing and public health campaigns across issues like vaccination, infectious disease prevention, and health system navigation.
  • Partner with Local Health Districts, health agencies, clinicians, researchers and community organisations to drive impact and consistency across NSW.
  • Apply behavioural science, consumer insights and data to shape communication that improves health outcomes.
  • Work in a highly collaborative, creative and supportive team that values curiosity, kindness and continuous learning.

About this role

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to campaigns and initiatives that help millions of people across NSW live healthier, safer lives. As Senior Communications Officer, you'll be part of a small, high-performing team delivering integrated communications and behaviour change projects across a wide range of public health priorities.

You'll work on projects that make a real difference—translating complex health information into accessible, motivating messages that inspire action. From media and digital content to creative development, campaign management and stakeholder engagement, your work will help ensure the people of NSW have the information they need to protect and improve their health.

Clerk Grade 9/10, salary range from $129,464 to $142,665 per annum plus superannuation and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

What you'll be doing

  • Plan, develop and implement public health communications and behaviour change campaigns and projects.
  • Translate evidence, insights and behavioural research into accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences
  • Collaborate with internal teams, health agencies, media buying agencies and creative suppliers to deliver integrated communications across paid, owned and earned channels.
  • Provide strategic communication advice and coordination support during public health incidents and campaigns.

Contribute to evaluation, reporting and continuous improvement of public health communications.

About you

We're looking for a motivated, organised and purpose-driven communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You'll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience (10+ years) delivering multi-channel (incl advertising) communications or marketing projects, ideally within government, health, or social change contexts.
  • Excellent writing and content development skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear, audience-centred messages.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners.
  • An analytical mindset, with experience applying insights, evidence or evaluation to shape communications.
  • The ability to balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines and maintain a calm, solution-focused approach under pressure.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, media or equivalent.
