The Opportunity:

The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) is seeking a motivated, experienced and capable procurement professional to join our Central Procurement Team as an Assistant Director. This role is pivotal in driving excellence in procurement practices across the Agency and will have a strong focus on legislative reporting and continuous improvement.

You will apply your expertise to deliver key reporting responsibilities for the Agency, including contract notice reporting, the Senate Order, Annual Procurement Plan and various reporting requirements under the Indigenous Procurement Policy. In support of continuous improvement, you will leverage your knowledge of the Commonwealth procurement framework to enhance team capability, strengthen reference materials and refine our library of standard operating procedures. You may also be called upon to represent the Agency at meetings and events, contributing to the development of procurement capability and confidence across the organisation.

As an Assistant Director in the Procurement Team, you will play a key leadership role in:

  • contributing to a culture that aligns with NIAA values and be dedicated to assisting in achieving quality program outcomes
  • leading the coordination of legislative procurement reporting across the
  • Agency, ensuring compliance with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs) and other statutory obligations
  • ensuring Agency procurement and contracting processes and procedures are compliant with the Commonwealth Procurement Framework
  • driving the implementation of audit recommendations, enhancing procurement governance, risk management, and operational efficiency
  • representing the Central Procurement Team in cross-agency forums and contributing to whole-of-government procurement initiatives
  • providing strategic procurement advice to senior executives and business areas, enabling informed decision-making and value-for-money outcomes
  • championing procurement leadership by mentoring staff, promoting best practice, and fostering a culture of integrity and innovation.

Our Ideal Candidate:

Our ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate the following:

  • proven experience in undertaking or leading procurement reporting and compliance activities
  • deep knowledge of the Commonwealth procurement framework, including the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs), the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability (PGPA) Act and related legislation
  • experience in providing clear and concise procurement and contract management advice to stakeholders of all levels
  • strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels in a friendly and efficient manner
  • an impeccable eye for detail
  • a commitment to continuous improvement and building capability across teams
  • alignment with the NIAA's values and a passion for contributing to positive outcomes for Indigenous Australians
  • strong customer service skills and the ability to build, develop and maintain relationships within NIAA, and the wider APS

  • To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (Secret, Confidential, Highly Protected) level security clearance or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
  • The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
