Team Connect WA

Volunteer Board Member*

Company Secretarial and Governance

About Team Connect WA

Team Connect WA is an ACNC listed charity that uses the power of sport to create meaningful connections for vulnerable teenage girls. Since 2018, we've inspired hundreds of young lives and positively impacted countless families and communities.

We are seeking expressions of interest from a passionate and skilled individual to join our Committee* in a voluntary capacity.

We currently have a vacancy for a Committee Member to lead our
Company Secretarial / Governance portfolio
.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute your governance expertise to a ground-breaking, award-winning community engagement program at an exciting stage in its development.

As a community-led organisation, it is important the Team Connect Committee reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We always encourage Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders, people with disability or people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds to consider nominating for this position.

Role Description – All Board Members

  • Provide strategic direction and contribute to effective governance of Team Connect WA.
  • Participate in Committee meetings every 6 weeks.
  • Attend and contribute to the AGM.
  • Collaborate with the Chair and fellow Committee members to oversee operational performance and risk management.
  • Contribute your skills and ideas to the development of the program.
  • Engage with the program on-the-ground to see the Committee's work in action, by attending 2 sessions with our young people per year.
  • Actively support and champion Team Connect WA at events and on social media.

Team Connect WA is a small charity. As such, potential applicants should be aware that Committee roles are hands-on and require commitment to action and demonstrable activity in between meetings.

Role Description – Company Secretarial / Governance

Lead the oversight of Team Connect WA's governance framework to ensure our organisation complies with all relevant legal, regulatory and constitutional requirements.

Work closely with the Chair and Treasurer to:

  • ensure the Committee operates effectively and in accordance with best practice for not-for-profit governance
  • manage statutory obligations, including annual reporting to the ACNC and maintenance of the organisation's register of members and key documents.
  • Support meeting administration, including preparation and timely circulation of agendas, minutes, and action registers.
  • Maintain an up-to-date governance calendar to ensure all compliance deadlines and governance activities are met.
  • Periodically review and recommend updates to the Constitution, policies, and governance procedures to reflect organisational growth and best practice.
  • Advise the Committee on governance and conflict-of-interest issues.
  • Alongside the Treasurer, advise the Committee on risk-management matters.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Chair and Program Lead on meeting standards and transparency expectations.

(Optional / Desirable):
Serve as Team Connect WA's
Safeguarding Committee Representative
, supporting the organisation's commitment to child safety and wellbeing by helping to oversee policies and processes that protect participants. Applicants should note that safeguarding is the responsibility of the whole committee and adopting this role will not make the individual more responsible than others. Rather, the intention of this role is to have a clear point of contact for maintaining safeguarding knowledge and liaison between the committee and executive around implementing best practice. A willingness to adopt this as part of the portfolio is not an essential requirement and we would discuss this aspect with shortlisted candidates on a case-by-case basis.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in board administration and governance.
  • An efficient and organised mindset.
  • Commitment to community service and equity.
  • Interest in one or more of youth work, community engagement or community sport.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with strong communication, listening and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to contribute time and expertise to a working Committee environment.
  • Based in Perth.
  • Current (or willing to obtain) National Police Certificate and Working with Children Check.

Desired Skills and Experience:

In addition to the portfolio-specific experience, we value candidates with the following skills and experience, which is advantageous but not essential:

  • Formal governance training (e.g. AICD, Governance Institute of Australia, or Community Directors).
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit or community organisation environments.
  • Experience working with volunteers or diverse stakeholder groups and/or within a child-related organisation.

While some skills and experience are essential, many other elements are not. We appreciate that not every candidate will meet every requirement. Even if you do not meet all the criteria but believe you could make a strong contribution to our Committee, we encourage you to apply. We would love to know how you can amplify our team with your unique experience.

Tenure:

Committee members serve a 3-year term with the option to extend.
