An internship at
Personalised Surgery
offers a unique opportunity for biomedical engineering students to apply their skills in a clinical engineering environment. You'll be part of a team working on real patient cases, supporting the planning and design of patient-specific surgical devices. Interns are exposed to technologies such as medical imaging, segmentation, 3D modelling, and additive manufacturing, and gain insight into how engineering integrates with surgical workflows.
With guidance from clinically trained engineers, you'll develop an understanding of the practical requirements of surgical planning and device development. Interns may also have the opportunity to observe procedures in theatre and see how their work supports clinical decision-making and execution.

, a state-of-the-art facility in St Leonards, NSW. Landmark brings together orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, researchers, and engineers in a collaborative environment dedicated to musculoskeletal care and innovation.
If you're a biomedical engineering student looking for hands-on experience in a technically challenging and clinically integrated setting, this internship provides a well-rounded foundation for your future career.
Objectives of Position:
· Develop technical skills in research, development, and manufacturing, including contributing to 3D surgical planning, designing medical devices, and prototyping with in-house 3D printers.
· Ensure precise documentation and adherence to safety and quality standards in all tasks.
· Contribute to improving production and R&D processes by identifying inefficiencies and proposing solutions.
· Maintain effective communication and collaboration with team members and stakeholders to achieve project milestones.
· Demonstrate consistent growth and readiness for future professional opportunities in biomedical engineering.
Main duties / Responsibilities:
· Assist senior engineers in production and manufacturing of patient-specific surgical devices and instruments.
· Support the creation of 3D models by performing segmentation of medical images such as CT scans.
· Contribute to research and development on advancements in medical device manufacturing technologies.
· Assist in ensuring quality control of manufactured devices.
· Collaborate with production teams to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Project-Based Responsibilities:
· Work on a personal project under the guidance of a senior engineer, applying learned technical skills to solve real-world problems.
· Prepare detailed documentation, including project presentation and progress reports.
Collaboration Responsibilities:
· Coordinate with engineers, surgeons, and other stakeholders to address challenges and contribute to engineering design iterations.
· Participate in team meetings to discuss progress and share insights on ongoing projects.
· Support communication efforts within the team to ensure alignment across various operations.
Qualifications and Experience:
· Students enrolled in Biomedical Engineering or related programs and are in the second-to-last year of study.
· Students wishing to pursue a career in Biomedical Engineering after completing their studies.
Skills and Qualities
· Proficiency in 3D engineering design software.
· Basic understanding of Python and MATLAB.
· Some experience in 3D printing.
