What we are seeking

This is a unique opportunity for a driven, responsible, and highly self-disciplined civil engineering student to join our team.

Who we are

Think Brick Australia, the Concrete Masonry Association of Australia, and the Australian Roofing Tile Association (the 'Associations') serve the needs of the manufacturers, suppliers, and installers of clay and concrete brick, block, paver, and roof tile products.

We aim to inspire contemporary architecture and building design using masonry and roof tiles in all areas of the built environment: commercial, residential, and landscape.

We undertake extensive research, provide technical resources and training, and lobby governments to ensure that our members' products are recognised as the pre-eminent building materials by leading architects, developers, builders, and property owners.

Some of the issues we focus on include enhancing standards and regulations, improving training of apprentices and building professionals, increasing worksite safety, and providing technical advice to practitioners about design and installation using masonry and roof tiles.

What we can offer

By accepting an internship with the Associations, students will improve their working knowledge of the brick, concrete masonry, and roof tile industries, and how they operate within the building and construction sectors.

The successful candidate will develop a strong technical understanding of the products and their uses, and get first-hand experience in the development and application of building regulation and standards.

They will network with representatives of our member companies, some of Australia's biggest manufacturers, and learn about how industry associations support their memberships.

Key responsibilities

The following functions will be performed under the guidance of the Associations' Civil Engineer:

  • answer technical or engineering enquiries regarding the properties and use of brick/block/roof tiles, in compliance with relevant standards and supported by our technical resources;
  • help to research, develop, and promote the Associations' technical resources;
  • provide support to the Associations' technical committees;
  • conduct dedicated research projects;
  • provide feedback on materials coming out of research projects;
  • coordinate standards committee membership and participation; and
  • provide general support to the Civil Engineer and General Manager, and other staff, as required.

Required attributes

The successful candidate must:

  • hold full Australian working rights;
  • be currently in their 3rd or final year of a civil engineering degree at an Australian university; and
  • be available for a minimum of 3 days per week throughout the internship, with full-time (38 hours per week) availability preferred.
