Position Summary
The Campus Leader is a key leadership position responsible for fostering a safe, orderly, and respectful learning environment on one of our three campuses. The main responsibilities of the role are to manage and improve educational programs, support and mentor staff, foster a positive learning culture, and ensure student wellbeing and engagement, whilst aligning campus activities with the College's vision and values.
The Campus Leader reports directly to the Deputy Principal, Primary and works closely with them to support the pedagogical practices to see improved learning outcomes. They lead the implementation of the campus timetable to include collaborative staff planning time, and ensure that staff meetings and professional development activities are evidence based and focussed on retaining and improving student outcomes aligned to the Scopus Horizons. In addition, they lead pastoral care and discipline in accordance with policy, communicating with the Deputy Principal, parents and teachers in relation to these matters.
The Campus Leader will have a unique focus tailored to Year 4 to Year 6 students , ensuring that our school's core values and behavioral expectations are consistently applied across all primary year levels.
The Campus Leader is the face of the College and represents the interests and needs of the College both internally and to the wider community.
Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesCampus Operations and Environment
- Oversee the daily operations of the campus to ensure a calm, orderly, and respectful atmosphere.
- Ensure learning spaces are well-maintained, organized, and conducive to high-quality teaching and learning.
- Promote a culture of high expectations, where students and teachers feel respected and supported.
- Cover lessons if and when required
- Lead staff to ensure that the environment in communal spaces and teaching spaces reflect high quality teaching and learning
- Ensure that a Duty of Care for staff, students and visitors is maintained at all times
- Collaborate with other leadership team members to implement the College strategic plan.
Holistic Student Development
- Collaborate with students, staff, and leadership to create an environment where every student can reach their full potential academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
- Work closely with the Director of Individual Learning to ensure student well-being is a top priority, creating an environment where every child feels happy, safe, and supported.
- Act as the first point of escalation after the classroom teacher for any student queries, concerns, or feedback, providing a consistent and reliable point of contact for families and staff.
Support for the Deputy Principal
- Act as a direct support for the Deputy Principal, Primary, on matters related to student welfare, daily campus operations, and the implementation of school-wide policies.
- Assist with administrative tasks and strategic initiatives as delegated by the Deputy Principal.
- Support the Deputy Principal Primary in the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning within the campus, including recruitment and selection of staff.
- Support the Deputy Principal Primary in the implementation of strategies determined by the Primary Leadership Team.
- Organise extra curricular programs as directed
- Attend meetings such as Learning Team Leaders, Learning Support, SIT meetings.
- Attend transition meetings to support successful transition from year to year
Leadership of Learning, Teaching, and Staff Development
- Campus Leaders at Mount Scopus Memorial College are instructional leaders dedicated to the professional growth of all staff and the academic and personal success of all students.
- Campus Leaders work collaboratively with staff both in and out of the classroom to build their capacity to consistently implement the College's models for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and Wellbeing. They set and uphold high expectations for themselves, just as they do for all staff and students.
- Campus Leaders are expected to have a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals. These teachers provide professional support to teaching staff
- Campus Leaders are expected to support the Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Inclusion to provide optimal learning spaces and opportunities for all our children to achieve their personal best.
- Campus Leaders are required to Improve instructional practice and student learning outcomes by leading Professional Learning Teams and staff professional growth initiatives.
Student Wellbeing, Engagement, and Management
- In collaboration with the Director of Individual Learning, lead the campus student wellbeing and management team in areas including student transitions, leadership, voice, engagement, inclusion, and health.
- Monitor and implement whole-school behaviour policies, responding to inconsistencies and refining processes as required.
- Mentor and support staff in addressing student welfare and behaviour issues in accordance with College policies and procedures.
- Oversee the development and delivery of student induction content, including expectations, management policies, and pastoral care.
Data-Driven Practice and Accountability
- Lead the analysis and use of student data (e.g. achievement, behaviour, attendance, Pivot) to inform teaching and intervention strategies.
- Support Team Leaders to identify trends and respond appropriately within their cohorts using a range of data sources.
Campus Identity, Events and Co-Curricular Leadership
- Develop and promote a strong Campus identity through leadership of assemblies, information evenings, tests, counselling, and Community Days.
- Lead, evaluate and coordinate a rich co-curricular program to enhance student engagement and connection to school.
- Organise and support camps, excursions, and special programs in collaboration with Team Leaders.
Transitions, Community Engagement, and Communication
- Work closely with the Team Leaders, cross campus leaders and other key stakeholders to ensure smooth student transitions from year to year.
- Assist in organising and delivering relevant Parent Information Evenings and year level events.
- Communicate regularly with parents, carers and community stakeholders regarding student progress, events, and campus programs.
- Liaise with administrative staff to ensure teacher absences are promptly and adequately covered. Organise relief teachers for absent General Studies teachers
- Support relief teachers in relation to student wellbeing, discipline, communication with parents.
- Work with the Marketing and Communications team to provide content to the College newsletter
- Collaborate with the Deputy Principal, Primary, and other Campus Leaders to share best practices and ensure consistent standards across the primary school. Organise PD schedule in consultation with Deputy Principal and Director of Teaching and Learning.
- Support teachers by providing guidance on classroom management strategies and fostering a positive school-wide climate.
- Lead the mentor program for new staff
- In co-ordination with the Deputy Principal for Primary, ensure a balanced timetable as far as possible, term by term.
Items of note
- The incumbent will be required to attend School Camps and excursions as directed.
- Qualified Primary School Teacher with requisite VIT Registration
- Minimum of 4-7 years primary teaching experience required
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current Anaphylaxis Certificate
- Current Mandatory Reporting Certificate
- A demonstrated ability to engage with student behavior in a proactive and positive manner, holding students accountable while maintaining strong, positive relationships.
- Experience in a leadership role within a school or educational setting.
- Minimum of 5+ years leadership experience in a school or educational setting is required
- A demonstrated knowledge of curriculum standards
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- A passion for creating an engaging and safe learning environment where every child can thrive.
- Current Australian work authorisation is required at the time of application
Knowledge and Curriculum Leadership Demonstrated high level understanding of initiatives in student learning including the Standards, the Principles of Learning and Teaching and Assessment and Reporting Advice and the capacity to provide leadership in the alignment of these areas.
Leading Teaching and Learning. Demonstrated outstanding classroom teaching skills and the capacity to support colleagues to continually improve teaching and learning.
Data-Informed Practice and Assessment Exemplary ability to monitor, assess, and report on student learning. Demonstrated capacity to lead teachers in using a range of data to inform and refine teaching practice, provide targeted feedback, and drive student growth.
Leadership and Interpersonal Skills Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students, parents and other staff and contribute to the leadership and management of the school.
