NG & SM DUNCAN trading as Oakland Park Stud is seeking a highly motivated and adaptive individual to join our growing team as a full-time Horse Trainer/Breeding.

Horse Trainer/Breeding – Duties will include:

• Training young stock including weanlings and yearlings for sale
• Overseeing daily care and supervision of breeding horses
• Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals
• Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
• Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of horses as required

The salary will be above award – in the range of $75,000 to $78,000 per annum depending upon the skill set and level of responsibility.

Essential Criteria

• A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses

• A minimum of two years' experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses

• Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including mares and yearlings

• Proven ability to train and educate young horses

• The suitable applicant will require evidence of managing a small team during the season

• Oral and written communication skills are sufficient to provide information and advice to others and prepare reports

• Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment

• Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of horses

• Practical experience and expertise in the management of leg deviations in foals with appropriate references.
