Brief Description
Be responsible for identifying, designing, and implementing automation solutions within the Underwriting team to reduce manual referrals, improve efficiency, and enhance the accuracy and consistency of underwriting decisions.

  • Location: Toowong, North Lakes or Kawana
  • This is a temporary full-time position (6 months)

The role
As an Automation Specialist, you will be reporting to the Technical Home Underwriting Manager. The purpose of this role is:

  • To identify, design, develop, and implement automation solutions within the Underwriting team, specifically targeting processes that generate manual referrals.
  • To significantly reduce the volume of underwriting referrals by automating decision-making criteria and data processing, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
  • To improve the consistency and accuracy of underwriting decisions through the application of automated rules and workflows, ensuring adherence to risk appetite and policy guidelines.
  • To empower underwriters by streamlining routine tasks, allowing them to focus on complex cases and strategic risk assessment rather than manual referral processing.

Position Accountabilities

  • Automation Solution Delivery - Work with Underwriting SMEs to identify and document processes for automation, focusing on reducing manual referrals. Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable automation solutions that meet performance, accuracy, and security standards.
  • Referral Reduction & Efficiency Improvement - Address root causes of referrals, monitor the impact on volumes, processing times, and accuracy, and optimise automated processes for efficiency and resilience.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication - Gather requirements from stakeholders, liaise with IT, Data Science, and other teams, and communicate progress and challenges clearly.
  • Documentation & Best Practices - Maintain documentation for automated processes, follow development standards and governance frameworks, and stay updated on emerging automation technologies.

What Experience You'll Bring
Qualifications and Experience
Essential

  • 3+ years proven experience in designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions using UiPath as Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tool.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (Python, VB.NET, C#) for data manipulation, API integration, and custom solution development.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex business processes, identify inefficiencies, and translate business requirements into technical specifications for automation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to identifying root causes and developing effective solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and effectively gather requirements.
  • Experience working collaboratively with business users and technical teams to deliver successful outcomes.

Desirable

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience within the insurance industry, particularly with underwriting processes, policy administration, or claims management.
  • Familiarity with common underwriting referral triggers and decision-making logic.
  • Relevant certifications in RPA platforms, Lean Six Sigma, Agile methodologies, or business analysis.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Understanding of data structures, data modelling, and database concepts.
