About the Role

We are seeking an experienced individual with a strong background in Tourism and Cultural Services, committed to driving the team and achieving results for the Community. This opportunity will see yourself managing the Narrabri Region Visitor Information Centre, promoting all aspects of tourism to the region, whilst working alongside a dedicated team committed to making a difference within the community. The Tourism and Cultural function include the following departments: Narrabri Shire Libraries; Community Development; Tourism; and Events. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and facilitating tourism growth opportunities and planning, developing and implementing tourism strategies, programs and projects to encourage sustainable tourism growth and increase the economic and social benefits of the region.
  • Managing bids for events, including funding, to oversee tourism-related events within the Shire.
  • Interacting and building relationships with local businesses, represent Council at relevant functions, meetings and events.
  • Liaising with community and State Government agencies and other key stakeholders to optimise local economic and community development.
  • Formulating, implementing, controlling and reporting on performance against Council's Integrated Planning and Reporting suite as well as other relevant strategies and action plans.

About You

The ideal candidate for the Manager of Tourism and Cultural Services position will have excellent communication skills with also having high leadership skills, as you will be effectively leading, developing and motivating staff within a diverse team.

  • You will be a highly motivated, tertiary qualified individual with extensive experience and a proven record of achievements.
  • Advocacy and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in dealing with complex customer enquiries and complaints with the ability to influence and negotiate cooperation and resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrates experience with community development, project management and economic engagement.
  • Ability to develop and manage effective relationships with all stakeholders ensuring success and delivery.
