Applications are invited for the position of Waste Services Assistant, based at Council's Inverell Landfill. The successful applicant shall have the responsibility of, and will assist in a range of duties at Inverell Landfill and Council's other Waste Management facilities; as well as assisting with animal welfare care and cleaning at the Inverell Impounding Facility. On a relieving basis, the Waste Services Assistant will be required to operate Council's waste and recycling robotic arm collection trucks.

Essential:
Qualifications
- NSW Class HR (Heavy Rigid) Drivers Licence;
- SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card ('White Card');
- National WHS Certification Standard as required for and/ or Statement of Attainment and/ or extensive experience operating Front End Loader/ Backhoe, or ability to attain Statement of Attainment within three (3) months of commencement;
- National Licence to perform High Risk Work for Forklift (LF) or ability to gain required licence within six (6) months of commencement.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated ability to operate small machinery such as mowers etc;
- Understanding of WHS requirements;
- Willingness to undertake training in weighbridge/ landfill operations;
- Demonstrated customer service experience and sound communication and interpersonal skills;
- Hold competent numeracy and literacy skills;
- Significant truck driving experience;
- Willingness to undertake training in weighbridge/ landfill operations.
Desirable:
Qualifications
- First Aid Certificate;
Skills and Experience
- Understanding waste management practices and awareness of different waste classifications;
- Previous experience in landfill or related operations;
- Basic experience in maintenance of heavy plant;
- Experience in operation of a robotic arm waste collection truck; and
- Competence to operate Landfill Compactor, or demonstrated capacity to acquire competence within three (3) months of commencement.
Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023. The classification for the position will be up to Operational Band 1, Level 3, Grade 4. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $1,125.73 to $1,198.62 gross per week, inclusive of Level 2 Adverse Working Conditions Allowance of $1.327 per hour.
