The Icon Group is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to support our subsidiaries – Icon, Minicon & Barpa responsible for the provision of legal advice and support.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with Icon Group's HSE policies and actively contribute to policy reviews
- Provide expert legal input across the tendering process, delivering accurate, high-quality advice that supports business objectives
- Maintain a high standard of technical expertise, consistently meeting deadlines and building strong, collaborative stakeholder relationships
- Communicate complex legal and contractual matters clearly and accessibly, ensuring tender documentation is accurate and aligned with company benchmarks and standards
- Deliver precise legal advice with clear recommendations, highlighting areas of uncertainty and ensuring risks are fully understood
- Balance excellence with pragmatism by identifying and managing deviations from Icon Group benchmarks during tendering and contract negotiations
- Engaging and overseeing external counsel and managing legal spend effectively
Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer with 6–8 years of relevant post-admission experience
- Current practising certificate in an Australian jurisdiction
- Proven in-house construction experience is essential
- Demonstrated experience negotiating on behalf of a head contractor
- Strong background in construction law, contracts, and commercial disputes
- Ability to provide clear, pragmatic and solution-focused advice in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Collaborative, commercial mindset with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels
