Network Consulting are working with a global manufacturing company within the print and packaging Industry to help find their next General Manager for their Melbourne operations.

The General Manager role is a critical role within this organisation, leading the established Victorian leadership team and reporting directly to the Vice President for Australia and New Zealand. This role would also be part of the Australia and New Zealand Leadership team.

Being able to lead a business going through growth and transformation, and drive the focus on efficiency and profit improvement by means of analysing data, leading improvements and initiatives.

This role is highly customer-focused and would suit a strategic leader with experience in developing commercial relationships and identifying prospective market growth areas for the business.

Role Responsibilities:

General Business Management

  • Strategic and tactical business analysis and planning, including one-year, three-year and five-year business plans
  • Oversee preparation of the annual budget
  • Leverage data to identify areas for improvement in efficiency. This includes but is not limited to margin management, inventory management, procurement decisions, site utilisation, and labour management
  • Development of a high-performing business unit, from both a human and technical perspective
  • Be future-focused with the ability and drive to sustainably and exponentially grow the business
  • Maintain an awareness of industry market trends, product features and competitors' offerings.

Operational

  • Maintain safety, quality, and asset control standards and processes
  • Create a culture of safety and operational excellence across all areas
  • Maintain security and control of all property, plant and equipment

Business Development

  • Drive commercial performance and work closely with the sales leadership to propose new strategies and tactics that will increase sales
  • Keep a keen eye on identifying and evaluating potential market growth areas
  • Negotiate arrangements together with internal key stakeholders for strategically significant or large pieces of business

People Management

  • Leveraging the support from the human resource lead, deliver an effective communication of company strategy to all team members, inspiring day-to-day performance through the translation of strategy into operational goals
  • Performance management of direct reports, including the identification of developmental needs and consistent guidance and coaching to encourage continual development
  • Overall monitoring and feedback of team performance, supporting supervisors to hold valuable and consistent performance discussions
  • Undertaking regular workforce planning across the team to attract and retain quality talent, ensuring staff are well trained to deliver exceptional customer service and a high-quality product
  • Work with the human resources lead to ensure effective employee relations strategies for the site
  • Ensure the site is up to date with legislated compliance practices

Leadership

  • Be an engaged and committed member of the ANZ leadership team
  • Be available and approachable within the broader business, facilitating consultation, open debate and collaboration on business issues
  • Foster a culture that leads to enhanced employee satisfaction and engagement
  • Encourage a climate of continuous improvement in quality and productivity
  • Lead and foster an organisational culture of opportunity and accountability that delivers a clear employee value proposition
  • Lead the change management process for the integration of the two Brisbane sites

Relationship Management

  • Manage and develop major client relationships at senior levels
  • Work to build and foster relationships with key industry partners, alliances and distribution channels
  • Support the negotiation and execution of high-level business deals and contracts
  • Develop a close working relationship with service and support teams

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Undergraduate qualifications in a relevant business discipline. Postgraduate or MBA qualifications preferred.
  • Familiarity with target market, its key players and purchasing behaviours – whether developed externally, internally or both
  • Knowledge of potentially relevant revenue models and how they can be adapted and combined for optimal returns
  • Proven track record in delivering on business targets
  • Proven ability to successfully communicate, present and influence key senior external customers and stakeholders
  • Experience leading and managing a high-performing production team in a fast-paced environment
