Position Information

The new Tallawong/Schofields High School (provisional name) is due to begin construction in 2026. The school will be located in the North West growth corridor, Dharug Country, which has seen rapid growth of residential housing over the past ten years. The new school build is expected to be open on Day 1, Term 1, 2027. The school will serve the communities of Tallawong and Schofields.

The new secondary school is designed to serve the rapidly growing number of local families in the area and will cater for 1,000 students in stage one. Upon opening, the school will welcome Year 7 and 8 students. In 2028, the year groups will expand to include Year 9, with an additional year group added each year. This will lead to the first full Year 7-12 cohort in 2031. The school will have close links with Tallawong Public School and Schofields Public School. An innovative Aboriginal Cultural Education Centre will be established on site, in partnership with the local AECG and local knowledge holders.

This role is to commence Term 1, 2026 with all the preliminary requirements of establishing a new school, new staffing, new processes and working collaboratively with School Infrastructure NSW. Due to the unique and complex nature of opening a new school, the foundation Principal will be appointed 12 months prior to the school opening. This position will be classified as a P4 principal.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Demonstrated ability to lead the establishment of a new school from inception, developing a clear, shared vision and culture aligned with Department of Education values, and fostering a vibrant learning community with high expectations for students, staff, and the wider community.

  2. Demonstrated success in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that ensures every student is known, valued, and empowered to achieve their personal best.

  3. Demonstrated commitment to Aboriginal education including authentic AECG partnership, with capacity to lead the establishment of an Aboriginal Cultural Education Centre with community, as an ongoing resource for the school and wider community.

General Selection Criteria
  1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

  3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

  4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

  5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2026.
