The Committee works through the values of respect, reciprocity, relationships, and reconciliation.

About the role

TEQ invites applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples to join as an Emerging Tourism Advisor to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee.

The Emerging Tourism Advisor will join the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee as an observer, providing a perspective on key cultural and tourism matters.

This role offers a valuable opportunity to engage with industry experts, contribute to important discussions, and gain firsthand experience in corporate governance and help shape respectful representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in tourism.

This is an 18-month appointment that includes a minimum of three meetings per year, with a sitting fee of $500 payable for each meeting attended. It is not a full-time role, but rather a commitment to participate as a member of the committee for the duration of the 18 months.

Key duties

  • Attend at least three Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee meetings per year as an observer
  • Offer perspectives from a younger generation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Engage with and learn from industry experts and TEQ Board members
  • Build knowledge and skills in tourism, events, and governance
  • Contribute to TEQ's reconciliation initiatives and support the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural tourism experiences

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Have experience connecting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities or industries in Queensland
  • Are passionate about tourism, storytelling, and cultural engagement
  • Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are eager to learn about corporate governance and the tourism sector
  • Have employer support to participate in the Committee (if currently employed)
