your opportunity
Join yourtown as the Indigenous Employment Coach to support the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people within the Transition to Work program. Provide culturally specific mentoring and guidance to Indigenous youth aged between 15-24 years of age and help them develop the skills required to help them enter and stay in the workforce.
Your days will be diverse but in essence will include:
• Mentoring young people who are in employment to ensure a sustainable pathway.
• Linking with elders and community organisations within the area to promote our Employment Services and to gain new referrals.
• Organise and run cultural activities and workshops once a week.
• Educating the team and sharing culturally appropriate resources to help support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
• Build and maintain employer relationships locally who foster culturally safe workplaces.
• Create relationships with employers to support and understand their needs to support both their business and young people success on the job.
what we are looking for
You are passionate about working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, and truly believe in every young person's capability to achieve a positive future in everything they do. You engage and build rapport easily with young people. You also understand the importance of community and actively build connections with local elders and community groups.
In addition you also possess;
• Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people with an employment/case management focus.
• A solid understanding of local jobs as well as the barriers faced by disadvantaged young people.
• Open to deliver workshops and group facilitation with young people (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specifically).
• Proficient skills in using technology and systems; our compliance requirements are high and your administration needs to be on par with this.
