About the opportunity
This position is targeted for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).' The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health are seeking 2x Research Associates to join a multidisciplinary team advancing research in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. In this role, you will work closely with the Chief Investigator team on a project located within a Local Health District, contributing to the embedding of Indigenous models of care within the areas of chronic care and outreach programs.
This position offers the opportunity to undertake meaningful research that not only strengthens academic knowledge but also informs health practice, aiming to influence other health providers to adopt innovative, community-driven Indigenous care models. You will be supported by experienced academic staff while developing your independent research skills within a collaborative and culturally inclusive environment committed to excellence and impact.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Conduct research and scholarly activity, both independently and collaboratively, to advance knowledge in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
- Develop and refine independent research skills under the guidance of senior academic staff.
- Build research capability within a supported Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research environment.
- Undertake administrative tasks and contribute actively to project and Centre meetings.
- Promote a positive workplace culture that values diversity, collaboration, and excellence.
- Support the University and Poche Centre's strategic priorities through research and engagement.
About you
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with equivalent combination of training and experience
- Demonstrated interest and passion for contributing to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health within a research environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to exercise discretion and work respectfully with Aboriginal communities.
- Proven research capability, including experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity, with a developing network of academic and professional partners.
- Strong planning, organisational, and computer literacy skills, with the ability to deliver presentations effectively.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures, including contemporary issues and the diversity of community circumstances.
