About the role

In this fast-paced and varied role, no two days are the same. You will work both autonomously and collaboratively to update and implement policies, undertake analysis on reporting data, and provide high-quality policy advice. You'll need to manage competing priorities and meet urgent deadlines, while ensuring a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail. This role suits someone who is proactive and shows initiative — someone who looks for opportunities to improve processes, solve problems, and add value without waiting to be asked. You will:

• Interpret and analyse data to inform policy advice and decisions
• Undertake desktop research to contribute to policy development
• Prepare succinct written correspondence, briefings, and recommendations
• Assess and manage funding applications, ensuring alignment with current policies
• Work both independently and within a collaborative team environment
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to provide expert advice

About you –

• Proven experience in policy, government or program-related work
• A go-getter mindset with a strong sense of initiative and drive to get things done
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft briefs and communicate policy information clearly
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Ability to interpret and understand policy frameworks and guidelines
• Solid foundational Excel skills: ability to read, summarise and interpret data reports
• Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and establish networks with a range of stakeholders
• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates who have not previously worked for the department will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number. This option would allow the WWCC to naturally expire without further communication needed with the employee. The employer obligations under the WWCC would apply for duration of the WWCC's validity (up to 5 years).
