Project Officer – Market Design

At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners – from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.

  • Temporary Full-Time role up to 30th June 2027
  • Location: Parramatta
  • Salary: Starting from $ 113,574 up to $125,720 + Super and accrued flex leaves

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Officer to support the delivery and enhancement of key projects and strategic initiatives aimed at improving the effectiveness of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) market.

In this dynamic role, you will assist with the implementation and evaluation of new and existing initiatives, provide analysis and reporting on training provider performance, and support the achievement of Government objectives and priorities for the VET sector. This role suits someone who is proactive and shows initiative — someone who looks for opportunities to improve processes, solve problems, and add value without waiting to be asked. You will also :

  • Monitor and analyse VET market data to inform decision-making and evaluate provider performance.
  • Prepare high-quality briefings, reports, and correspondence to support the work of the directorate.
  • Contribute to the communication and interpretation of project outcomes to support public and private training providers.

About you -

  • Intermediate to strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • A go-getter mindset with a strong sense of initiative and drive to get things done
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and initiative in delivering results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing briefing notes and formal correspondence.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and establish networks with a range of stakeholders
  • A sound understanding of, or experience in, the Vocational Education and Training sector will be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Note: the selection process will include a range of assessment techniques to assist in determining your suitability for the role. Successful candidates will be required to undertake pre-employment screening for this role which includes a National Criminal History Check.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates who are not currently employed by the department will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number. This option would allow the WWCC to naturally expire without further communication needed with the employee. The employer obligations under the WWCC would apply for duration of the WWCC's validity (up to 5 years).
