At Svitzer, keeping ports running and global trade moving takes more than crews on the water. Behind every safe towage job is a shore-based team making it happen. From operations and technical to planning, systems, and compliance - we rely on capable people who understand the importance of doing things properly. Why You'll Want to Join Us

This role places you at the heart of daily port operations — where your technical know-how and practical approach help keep our vessels running safely and efficiently. You'll combine hands-on coordination with proactive problem-solving, working closely with the Technical Superintendent, crews, and technical teams to maintain high performance and drive continuous improvement across our Newcastle operations.

Reporting to the Port Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Port team in daily vessel and shore maintenance planning, contractor engagement, and short-term maintenance execution.
  •  Act as the key contact for technical matters, assist with all deliverables, and ensure timely reporting of mechanical issues or defects.
  • Manage requisitions, purchases, deliveries, and procurement meetings, while maintaining data collection and analysis for vessel operations and maintenance.
  • Oversee warehouse and yard coordination, parts provisioning, and management of shore-based infrastructure, with strong crew engagement.
  • Handle general office administration, budgeting awareness, and prepare weekly/monthly reports and other duties as assigned by management.
  • Champion safety and compliance by following established systems, licences, and company procedures.

What You'll Bring

To thrive in this role, you'll bring:

  • Mechanical trades knowledge and/or previous experience in a mechanical trades position
  • Proven computer literate with competency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • The ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment, understand objectives and deliver results;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Ability to multi-task, adapt to changing priorities and prioritise workloads;
  • High attention to detail and accuracy of work; and

Building a Diverse Workplace

At Svitzer we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles, and we are excited about hearing from you
