Let's create a brighter future together, let's make a difference
It's important to know, what you do matters. At Zurich, we don't just cover, we care.
Join Zurich at a pivotal moment in our technology transformation journey as we strive to become Australia's Leading Digital Insurer. As a Dynatrace Observability Engineer, you'll play a hands-on role in elevating application and business observability for Zurich's Australian operations. Working within our IT Infrastructure & Services team, you'll collaborate with application owners and business stakeholders to integrate data sources, tailor observability solutions, and co-create dashboards that deliver meaningful, real-time metrics and visualisations.
Your work will empower teams to monitor, analyse, and optimise their services and customer experiences through Dynatrace, fostering a data-driven culture and supporting Zurich's digital ambitions. You'll be instrumental in bridging the gap between technical monitoring and business outcomes, enabling teams to become self-sufficient in leveraging Dynatrace, and driving innovation that aligns with Zurich's strategic priorities and operational goals.
You will also be responsible for the following:
- Partnering with application teams to onboard services into Dynatrace, including agent-based, OpenTelemetry-based, and synthetic transaction instrumentation.
- Guiding teams in defining meaningful service-level indicators (SLIs), service-level objectives (SLOs), and business KPIs.
- Building and maintaining Dynatrace dashboards tailored to application health, user experience, and business outcomes.
- Supporting teams in configuring alerts, synthetic monitors, and custom events for proactive issue detection.
- Providing enablement and training to developers and DevOps teams on observability best practices.
- Collaborating with CI/CD teams to embed observability into pipelines and deployments, and acting as a local expert and advocate for observability within the Australian business units.
Important to your success – let's grow together
We're seeking a hands-on, collaborative engineer who is passionate about observability and eager to drive Zurich's digital transformation. You'll thrive in a dynamic environment, working across teams to deliver clarity, enhanced performance, and transparency in support of our digital north star ambition.
In order to be successful, you will have the following:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar hands-on engineering role, ideally with a bachelor's degree in information systems or related discipline.
- Proven expertise with Dynatrace, including dashboarding, alerting, tagging, and custom metrics, as well as hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry and telemetry data onboarding.
- Strong understanding of application architectures (microservices, APIs, cloud-native) and experience working with developers and DevOps teams in agile environments.
- Ability to translate technical telemetry into business-relevant insights, with familiarity in CI/CD pipelines and observability-as-code practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and experience with other observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Datadog).
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and exposure to SRE practices and reliability engineering principles.
Belong. Zurich is here to support you
There are so many reasons why Zurich is a great place to be and the right choice for you, but here are just a few.
