At Rome2Rio, our mission is simple: help travellers get from A to any B. We make it easy to compare flights, trains, buses, ferries, and driving routes - providing everything users need to discover, plan, and book their journey. Behind the scenes, we tackle complex routing challenges, process massive datasets, and optimise search performance to deliver fast, reliable results.
As a Senior Product Designer at Rome2Rio, you'll craft intuitive and beautiful travel experiences across web and mobile platforms. You will own the design of end-to-end features from early discovery through polished UI, ensuring every interaction feels seamless and purposeful.
Working within a lean design team of 3, you'll balance individual contributor excellence with collaborative leadership. You'll work cross-functionally to balance user needs, product strategy, and technical constraints while helping shape our design culture and standards. This is a high-impact role with strong emphasis on UI excellence, interaction design, and system-level thinking, where your voice directly influences product direction and team development.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end product design across mobile and web platforms, delivering high-fidelity, user-centered work with minimal oversight.
- Translate product requirements into intuitive, accessible, and visually refined designs informed by user research and data.
- Design visually polished, cohesive interfaces with a strong command of layout, hierarchy, spacing, and typography.
- Plan and run just-enough research when needed – usability tests, interviews and surveys – then turn insights into clear design decisions and experiments.
- Lead divergent explorations and concept sprints, prototype unconventional ideas, and pressure-test them with users and data.
- Co-own and evolve the design system in collaboration with Engineering, driving consistency and scalability across products.
- Mentor junior designers and foster a strong feedback culture through critiques, workshops, and team rituals.
- Contribute meaningfully to product strategy, roadmap planning, and prioritisation alongside cross-functional partners.
- Improve design tools, workflows, and processes to increase team efficiency, clarity, and delivery quality.
- Build strong alignment with Product, Engineering, and Analytics to ensure shared ownership of outcomes.
- Champion design craft, accessibility, and user needs across the organisation, contributing to a high-performing and values-driven culture.
What We're Looking For
- 5–7 years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio of consumer-facing digital products
- Proficiency in interaction design, visual design, UX, and accessibility best practices
- Proven experience contributing to or co-owning design systems within cross-functional teams
- Comfortable planning and conducting evaluative research, synthesising insights and partnering with Analytics on success metrics
- Thrives in ambiguity, shapes problem statements, and drives clarity with Product, Engineering and Analytics
- Fluency in modern design tools (e.g., Figma) and responsive design practices
- Demonstrated expertise in UI and visual design, including typography, layout, color theory, and creating pixel-perfect, accessible interfaces
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex design work independently while collaborating effectively
- Experience facilitating design processes like critiques, workshops, or design reviews
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills at all organizational levels
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in travel, mapping, or transport-related products
- Exposure to international or multilingual UX design
- Awareness of front-end implementation (HTML/CSS)
- Interest in AI tools and how they can enhance the design process
How to apply: Please include 2–3 case studies that show:
- A before/after of UI decisions with rationale
- Your grid, type and spacing system in action
- Research inputs and how they changed the design
- Prototypes or motion that demonstrate interaction detail
