DIRECTOR OF MISSION AND IDENTITY

Reports To: The Principal

Position Overview

The Director of Mission and Identity works as a member of the COR reporting directly to the Principal. The Director of Mission and Identity has the responsibility to integrate the Catholic Faith and Mary Aikenhead Ministries charism to all aspects of College life, particularly the Social Justice and Outreach Program;  Spiritual formation of St Vincent's College staff, students and parents, ex-students;  Retreats and Reflection days;  over-seeing Liturgical and Sacramental life and ensuring Ignatian Spirituality is an integral aspect of our College identify.

The Director of Mission and Identity demonstrates collaborative leadership within the St Vincent's Community in all areas of the evangelizing mission of the Church through the facilitation of committees, teams and groups.

Key Responsibilities:

Cultural and Religious Leadership

  • Gives personal witness to the values and beliefs of the Catholic Church.
  • Ensures the continuing development of a culture that is in harmony with Catholic tradition, the charism of Mary Aikenhead, the spirituality of Ignatius of Loyola and the heritage of the Sisters of Charity.
  • Leads the integration of Ignatian Spirituality in all aspects of College life.
  • Develops policies, structures, and procedures that realise the goals of the Mary Aikenhead Ministries Education Philosophy.
  • Ensures the stories of Mary Aikenhead and other key figures of the Sisters of Charity tradition are regularly retold and celebrated within the College community.
  • Oversees the work of the Religious Education Team's collective responsibilities for the prayer and liturgical life of the College.
  • Create, facilitate and review retreat and faith formation programs which enable students and staff to develop skills in reflection and discernment based on Ignatian ideals.

Executive Leadership

  • Contributes to the strategic direction of the College.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates the outcomes of decisions made by the College COR.
  • Leads the Heads of Houses, Mission and Identity Team to empower all staff and students to engage in social justice initiative.
  • Prepares and leads Staff induction into the charism and mission of the College through the Staff induction program, Staff retreats and Staff Spirituality Days
  • Promotes and provides a range of professional development opportunities that are steeped in the mission of the universal church and/or Ignatian Spirituality
  • Oversees the implementation and review of the Archbishops Charter for Catholic Schools and the review processes that focus on the Foundational documents of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
  • Oversees the work of the Religious Education Team's collective responsibility for the liturgical and sacramental life of the College.
  • Communicates at a high level with students, ex-students, staff and parents,  in an engaging, creative and sensitive manner.
  • Supports the initiatives of parents, students and staff by regular attendance at community events.
  • Maintains a high level of interest and participation in their own professional development and membership of appropriate parish, diocesan and professional communities.

Community Building

  • Articulates the Mary Aikenhead Ministries vision of education and engages the community in how this vision takes shape.
  • Work with other organisations who share the mission and vision of the College to further enhance the missiological aspect of the Church.
  • Supports the initiatives of parents and other groups working within the College by regular attendance at functions and special events.
  • Engages with current community (and ex-students, ex parents) on issues that build Catholic Identity and Misson.

Educational Leadership

  • Is an exemplary classroom teacher of Religious Education.
  • In conjunction with the COR, articulates a vision of education that reflects the Educational Philosophy of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
  • In conjunction with the COR, creates and maintains an environment where excellence in teaching and learning is highly valued.

Leadership of the Social Justice and Outreach Program

  • Leads and facilitates the implementation of Social Justice initiatives which are reflective of the imperatives of Catholic Social Teachings.
  • Develops Immersion experiences at a local, national and international level. At all of these levels the Director of Mission and Identity creates and builds on the capacity of staff to lead the immersion experience.

Reconciliation Action

  • Engages the community in promoting reconciliation with the First Nations People of Australia;
  • Works closely with Heads of Department to ensure First Nations Perspectives are included in all learning areas.
Essential Selection Criteria:
  • Membership of a Catholic Eucharistic community
  • Experience in Catholic Education leadership
  • Master's degree in Theology or Religious Education
  • Working with Children Check
