We're a warm, energetic café launching soon in Newcastle, serving exceptional specialty coffee, fresh house-made pastries, and simple, seasonal brunch dishes done really well.

We're building a small team of passionate hospitality people — and we're searching for a skilled, reliable Cook to help bring our menu to life.


The Role

As our Cook, you'll be the heartbeat of the kitchen — running the hot bench during service, handling daily prep, maintaining food safety standards, and contributing ideas for new breakfast and lunch dishes.

This is a hands-on role with both weekday and weekend shifts.

Rostered hours:

  • Weekdays: 6:00–14:00
  • Weekends: 7:00–15:00

    Early starts are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and plate breakfast & lunch dishes to recipe, consistently and beautifully.
  • Complete daily mise-en-place and ingredient prep.
  • Produce basic pastry items — bonus points if you can make mini croissants (even on a small production scale).
  • Maintain a clean, safe kitchen with strict hygiene and stock-rotation standards.
  • Work closely with front-of-house to ensure smooth, timely service.
  • Suggest and help test new seasonal menu items.

Selection Criteria (Must-Haves)
  • 2+ years' experience in cafés or light commercial kitchens.
  • Food safety / hygiene certification (Food Handler or similar).
  • Able to work early mornings and weekends.
  • Reliable, calm under pressure, and a genuine team player.
  • Experience with laminated pastry — especially mini croissants — is a big advantage.

Desirable
  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
  • Comfort with basic portion costing and simple stock ordering.
