Are you passionate about plant breeding and ready to make a meaningful impact in the almond industry? The University is seeking a highly motivated Grant Funded Researcher (A) to join our multidisciplinary team advancing almond breeding and genetics.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in tree crop breeding, with a focus on almonds. You will lead and support field and laboratory-based research activities, collaborate with industry partners, and contribute to the development of improved almond cultivars through innovative breeding strategies. The role requires experience with quantitative genetics, mixed models, multi-environment trials, and modern genomic selection approaches for perennial tree crop breeding programs.
The Grant Funded Researcher will be responsible for designing and managing field trials and phenotyping activities, conducting laboratory workflows such as DNA extraction and genotyping, and analysing complex datasets using appropriate statistical and computational tools. To be successful you will need:
- PhD in plant breeding, genetics, horticulture, or a closely related field; experience with tree crops (e.g., almonds) or perennial systems.
- Hands‑on experience with field trial design and management, plant phenotyping, and laboratory workflows (e.g., DNA extraction, genotyping) for breeding applications.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and data workflows using relevant tools (e.g., R, Python, ASReml, mixed models) to interpret complex experimental results and inform selection decisions.
- Proven ability to design and lead independent research while collaborating effectively across disciplines.
- Experience presenting research to scientific and industry audiences (conferences, seminars, field days) and publishing in peer‑reviewed venues.
