About Us

Working Women's Centre Tasmania (WWCT) a program of Women's Legal Service Tasmania,

in partnership with Worker Assist, we offer a gendered employment specialist service for women in

Tasmania to provide comprehensive employment advice, representation, advocacy and

support to women across the state.

Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid lawyer role based in Hobart, TAS, with opportunities to work from home and at different WLST locations across the state.

Under the supervision of Worker Assist's Principal Solicitor, the Solicitor will provide legal

advice and representation, and community legal education statewide, focusing on workers'

compensation.

The role also involves leadership responsibilities, such as mentoring junior lawyers/case officers

and contributing to the Working Women's Centre Tasmania's strategic goals. This will include

working closely with other WWCT staff who have carriage of your clients' related matters.

Qualifications

Essential:

  1. At least three (3) years post-admission experience and admission as a Solicitor in the

Supreme Court of Tasmania and the Federal Court of Australia;

  1. An understanding of and a commitment to the feminist framework of Working Women's

Centres and the principles of social justice and equality;

  1. Sound knowledge and experience in providing high-quality legal advice and casework in

employment and workers' compensation matters through a trauma-informed lens;

  1. Experience working with clients facing multiple barriers and disadvantage markers;

  2. Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and people management skills;

  3. Demonstrated ability to plan and contribute to developing and implementing policy and

projects;

  1. Demonstrated commitment to advancing debate, policy and legislative reform

concerning women and the law;

  1. Demonstrated highly developed organisational skills and the ability to produce results

under pressure, including working autonomously and using initiative;

  1. Assertiveness, confidence and a demonstrated success in developing and maintaining

community networks;

  1. Current registration to work with vulnerable people or the ability to obtain registration; and

  2. Aptitude in using Microsoft Office programs (such as Word, Excel and Teams etc) as

necessary to complete required tasks.

Desirable:

  1. Hold a current unrestricted driver's licence.

  2. Experience with community legal centres or not-for-profit legal practice environments.

  3. Experience with public speaking, legal education, or law reform campaigns
