Legal Assistant / Paralegal - Civil Litigation

TFR Lawyers is a Hobart-based law firm servicing private and corporate clients across Tasmania and interstate.

TFR Lawyers have an opportunity for an experienced civil litigation legal assistant or aspiring litigation paralegal to join our CBD practice, providing support to our highly regarded and experienced team in a part-time or full-time capacity.

Key Practice Areas:

We have a busy and interesting civil litigation practice working predominately across the following areas:

· Workers Compensation for panel insurers and private clients

· Motor Accident claims for the MAIB and private clients

· Professional conduct, commercial litigation and regulatory for government and statutory authorities

The Role:

The Legal Assistant / Paralegal - Civil Litigation provides comprehensive support to our legal practitioners engaged in dispute resolution and litigation matters in the civil litigation team, predominately in the Tasmanian jurisdiction, and engages with a range of stakeholders.

This opportunity is suitable for an experienced legal assistant who aspires to become specialised in civil litigation, including as a paralegal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the management of litigation files including diary management for practitioners, monitoring court dates, deadlines, and scheduling, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and correspondence.
  • Liaise with clients, barristers, experts, witnesses and other 3rd parties to coordinate appointments and gather information.
  • Assist in the accurate preparation and filing of legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, subpoenas, discovery, and court forms.
  • Transcribing digital dictation and preparation of invoices.
  • Maintain discretion, confidentiality and always adhere to legal ethics and firm policies.

About You:

  • 2+ years' experience as a legal assistant in civil litigation; Certificate IV in Legal Services or Diploma of Paralegal Studies desirable but not essential.
  • Understanding of civil procedure rules and litigation processes.
  • High level of accuracy in document preparation and data entry.
  • Excellent plain English verbal and written communication.
  • Organised with attention to detail, a proactive approach and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case management systems desirable.
