About the Role

Join Gemco Rails dynamic rail operations team and play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of rolling stock across both depot and field environments. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you'll carry out inspections, repairs, and operational tasks in line with Rail Safety and OH&S regulations, contributing to a secure and efficient rail network.

You'll perform integrity checks, mechanical assessments, and shunting duties, while actively participating in continuous improvement initiatives. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to work closely with transport partners, workshop teams, and technical specialists to maintain high standards of service delivery and operational excellence.

This role will report to SCT Contractor Coordinator and collaborates closely with the Forrestfield Workshop.

About You

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to meet Rail Safety Worker Category 2 fitness standards.
  • Solid foundation in general engineering principles, with practical exposure to hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Proven experience working with rolling stock and railway equipment.
  • Strong understanding of Occupational Health & Safety regulations and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document inspections and interact confidently across teams.
  • Well-developed organisational skills to manage tasks efficiently in a dynamic environment.
  • Hold a valid Railway Train Examiner Certificate and Track Access/Safety Awareness Ticket.
  • Possess a High Risk Work Licence for Forklift (LF) and Dogging (DG) operations.
