UNSW Rural brings world-class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full 6-year medical course at our rural campuses across several locations. Face-to-face teaching is critical to rural program delivery as students build strong relationships with and benefit from more personal interaction with clinicians and other academics and become a part of the local medical community. UNSW's program has strongly supported the aims of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program for over 25-years, delivering excellence in rural medical education and student experience.
Details of the role
The Administrator, Curriculum Rural Clinical Campuses, makes a significant contribution in the delivery of the undergraduate and post-graduate programs at the Rural Clinical Campuses.
With a focus on curriculum the role provides day to day timetabling and other administrative program and teaching support to students, teachers and stakeholders. The position holder will be involved in campus activities, vocational training and pathways, and other operational imperatives as required, working to facilitate a vibrant campus environment and a collaborative and collegiate team.
The role requires a close working relationship with the Administrative Officer, Rural Campus Coordinator, Director of Medical Education, academic phase coordinators and other Administrator, Curriculum staff. The position holder will build productive relationships with other clinical and administrative staff in the Rural Clinical Campuses and Faculty. Building positive external relationships with local clinicians, hospitals, clinical practices, other key stakeholders, and within the local community is essential.
The role of Administrator, Curriculum Rural Clinical Campuses reports to the Administrative Officer, Rural Campus Coordinator at the identified Rural Clinical Campus and has no direct reports.
Some key skills required:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent level of knowledge and competence gained through another combination of education, training and experience.
- Coordinate and deliver high quality and innovative timetabling, including monitoring and rescheduling as required, for student placements in identified disciplines of the medicine course and for one or more learning phases of the curriculum.
- Provide support and guidance to students and staff including but not limited to timetabling and placement requirements, assessment, examinations, Independent Learning Project, records and documentation, student compliance, safety and wellbeing.
- Develop professional relationships with local clinicians, Local Health District staff, practice managers, local rural health networks, specialist colleges, training organisations, and other key stakeholders.
- Support short-term rural clinical placements (STRCP) within local campus localities, in collaboration with the Rural Support team, Faculty and local hospitals, as required.
- Support local campus requirements for delivery of the Rural Entry Admissions Pathway (REAP) including interviewer training, student interviews and selection processes, annual medicine information presentation, Indigenous special entry, and other recruitment initiatives.
- Perform other general administrative support, duties and functions including campus 'business as usual' activities, Regional Training Hub and vocational training activities, and other campus events and activities supporting rural student experience and the delivery of the medicine program, as required.
- Experience in the coordination, implementation and review of timetables, course material, and other educational support initiatives, ensuring confidentiality, discretion and tact where required.
