Business Analyst

• Initial contract 05/01/2026 to 24/12/2027 with possible extension paying $920/day
• Brisbane CBD Location with flexibility to WFH 2 days per week
• More than 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst with focus on large complex system implementations preferally within a QLD Government environment

Our client, Department of Education, are currently seeking a Business Analyst for an initial 2-year contract.  The contractor may be directed to work on one or more projects within their Information Technology Branch, providing a high level of business analysis services as requirements emerge throughout the term of the engagement.

As the Business Analyst you will have responsibility for the following:

• Lead investigative work to determine business requirements and specify effective business processes. Select, adopt and adapt appropriate business analysis methods, tools and techniques, considering business perspectives.
• Provide a high level of expertise in establishing and documenting ICT business and system requirements through a range of structured research and analysis techniques including, but not limited to, facilitated stakeholder workshops, surveys, client meetings and industry reference reviews.
• Obtain formal agreement from a large and diverse range of potentially senior stakeholders and recipients to the scope and requirements, plus the establishment of a baseline on which delivery of a solution can commence.
• Collaborate closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure requirements are effectively elaborated into prioritised Product Backlog Items (PBIs) and tracked through to business acceptance, supporting direct communication and alignment between stakeholders and the solution development team.
• Analyse and design business processes, identify alternative solutions to exploit new technologies and automation, and develop graphical representations of business processes to facilitate understanding and decision making.
• Actively support Agile delivery by facilitating timely communication between business and technical teams, ensuring prioritised requirements are updated and aligned with evolving business needs.
• Produce conceptual business models in support of business strategy with capability of developing bespoke models for unusual contexts.
• Identify the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups, translating communications/stakeholder engagement strategies into specific activities and deliverables.
• Monitor and share knowledge with other business analyst team members, to contribute to the maintenance of high-quality project deliverables using various management and system design tools.
• Undertake research activities in relation to best practice processes and frameworks, new and emerging technologies and organisational development.

Skills and experience required:

• More than 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst with focus on large complex system implementations preferally within a QLD Government environment
• Demonstrated experience in the business/IT environment.
• Gathering information from stakeholders to understand their needs and detailed requirements;
• Writing Business and Functional requirements specifications and documenting business rules;
• Analysing and decomposing business requirement into functional and non-functional requirements;
• Expertise in business process modelling using Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN)
• Understanding the limitations of technology in relation to business processes and ability to present alternate options to business stakeholders
• Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement and management
• Extensive Agile experience essential
