What does a successful Technical Architect do in Fiserv?

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Architect to join our eCommerce Engineering team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and developing robust, scalable, and high-performance eCommerce solutions. This position demands a deep understanding of eCommerce platforms, software architecture, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams in delivering exceptional technical solutions.

What You Will Do:

Architecture:

• Define and create the architectural framework for eCommerce applications, ensuring scalability, performance, and security in alignment with business objectives.
• Lead the architectural design process, making decisions on technologies, tools, and best practices.

Solution Design:

• Design and implement complex eCommerce solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools that can enhance the overall architecture and performance of the eCommerce platform.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and development teams to define project scope and technical specifications.
• Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on project objectives.

Technical Oversight:

• Provide guidance to development teams on coding standards, best practices, and architecture principles.
• Review and approve technical designs and code to maintain quality and ensure adherence to established guidelines.

Performance Optimisation:

• Analyse system performance and identify opportunities for optimisation in existing applications and services.
• Develop strategies to improve application performance and reduce latency.

Project Management:

• Lead technical feasibility studies and participate in project planning activities to estimate time and resources needed for delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance development processes and team productivity.

BAU Operations Support:

• Assist in maintaining business-as-usual operations, including high availability tools, scalability, platform re-engineering, monitoring tools, production analysis, and troubleshooting activities.

Mentorship and Team Development:

• Mentor and develop junior architects and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence within the team.
• Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions to advance the team's skill sets and technical capabilities.

What You Will Need To Have:

• 10+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on eCommerce technologies.
• Proven experience in leading architectural design efforts for complex enterprise applications, preferably in an eCommerce environment.
• Expertise in web application architectures, including microservices, APIs, and cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, etc.).
• Proficient in multi-tier application design and development.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java/J2EE, JavaScript, Python, or C#, and Spring Development.
• Strong background in databases, including SQL, DB2 and NoSQL technologies.
• Experience with application servers like Tomcat and JBoss/WildFly; prior experience with Microsoft IIS is a plus
• Proficient in front-end technologies, including hand-coding in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
• Knowledge of secure coding practices, including OWASP standards.
• Familiarity with identity management (IDM) technologies such as PING, Entra, and SSO is highly desirable
• Experience with DevOps practices, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Willingness to work in a 24/7 payment systems environment, given the critical nature of eCommerce transactions.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to understand and solve complex technical problems.
• Strong leadership capabilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to influence and drive collaboration across teams and departments.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapting to changing business needs.
