Laynhapuy was established in the 1970's to represent Yolŋu interests and residents of Homelands which constitute the corporation. The main goals and objectives of the organisation are to assist our Homeland communities and our people to:
• Determine our own future
• Run and control our own affairs
• Develop self-sufficient or otherwise sustainable Homelands – standing on our Yirralka.
Laynhapuy provides health, housing and land and sea management services and support to around 30 remote Yolŋu homelands in North East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. The organisations main base is in Yirrkala around 20km from the mining town of Nhulunbuy. The Laynhapuy Homelands are situated between a 1 and 4 hour drive from Yirrkala.
The vision for Laynhapuy is: "to determine our own future to manage our own affairs, to become self-sufficient so that the homeland mala (clans) can continue to live in peace and harmony".
About the organisation:
Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (LHAC) is a not-for-profit member-based organisation that has been in existence for more than 40 years. It was incorporated with ORIC in 2012 and before this operated as an association. Laynhapuy provides essential services across 30 homeland communities including: primary healthcare, NDIS support, aged care support, housing, municipal services, and community services. As well, Laynhapuy has its own ranger program (Yirralka Rangers).

The purpose of the position:
Aims to enhance family and community capacity through the planning and delivery of Trauma Informed Care to support families, strengthen relationships, improve wellbeing of children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with other providers to deliver coordinated, culturally competent, therapeutic, trauma informed services with children from 0 till 18 years of age, their families and communities, in accordance with the support program's guidelines.
- Facilitate individual and group therapeutic work with referred young people and their families.
- Enhance family resilience and increase health and wellbeing of children, building on existing strengths of families and communities to care for children within their culture framework.
- Work collaboratively with clients, their families, and relevant internal and external service providers to establish and review support that reflects individual client goals.
- Ensure that correct processes and systems are in place and followed.
- Maintain a friendly, professional, and approachable attitude towards stakeholders and coworkers.
- Behave ethically and function collaboratively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Be familiar with and adhere to all State and Federal Legal Requirements.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Social work, psychology or counselling qualification or similar, with a strong understanding of Trauma Informed Practice.
- Previous experience working or living within an Indigenous setting and ability to demonstrate a high level of cross cultural awareness in the workplace.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team structure and to work independently when required in a remote working environment.
- A high level of personal fitness due to the physically demanding nature of remote work
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including high level written and oral communication skills.
