The Role
This role will lead the execution of hydrographic survey programme and projects, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the position will implement the adoption of technology to drive continuous improvement to transition current processes into highest quality services outputs.
The Hydrographic Manager will also provide key support to the Programme Manager -Dredging and Hydrographic Survey in achieving TasPorts' strategic objectives and to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the survey function.
This is a permanent, full-time role based in TasPorts Corporate Offices in either Hobart, Devonport or Launceston.

What do you do?
- Manage and deliver the hydrography programme, including planning, resourcing, and delivering all hydrographic survey activities.
- Develop operational processes, systems, and practices to ensure efficient survey operations.
- Lead the execution of hydrographic survey projects, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and compliance with industry regulations.
- Develop and implement commercial strategies to grow and sustain the function's business, including pricing models, client acquisition, and contract negotiations.
- Manage the financial operations of the hydrographic survey function, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Lead the selection process for new equipment, ensuring they align with project requirements.
- Manage Hydrographic and Associated Survey
- Operate and maintain the TasPorts hydrographic survey vessels.
- Manage risk assessments, emergency preparedness, and safe work practices for all hydrographic operations.
- Maintain personal and team offshore qualifications as required (e.g., BOSIET, MSIC, First Aid).
What do you need:
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Spatial Science, Surveying and Mapping, Geomatics, or equivalent.
- Certified as a Level 1 Hydrographic Surveyor by the Australasian Hydrographic Surveyors Certification Panel (AHSCP).
- Hold a Certificate of Competency as Coxswain grade 1 near coastal.
- Construction White Card
- Current drivers licence.
- Capability to obtain and hold a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
