The Geelong English Language School (GELS) (interim name):

¿ provides EAL (English as an Additional Language) tuition to eligible Foundation to Year 10 students who are Newly Arrived in Australia.

¿ Supports teachers and schools in the Greater Geelong area to build EAL teaching skills and develop appropriate EAL programs and policies for students within their first five years of school in Australia.

Location and delivery

GELS¿ (interim name) main administrative campus is in Belmont, Geelong.

In 2025, GELS (interim name): will deliver an intensive English language program for New Arrivals students at three campuses; Corio (F ¿ yr 6), North Geelong (yrs 7 ¿ 10) and Belmont

(F ¿ yr 6),

Students in GELS (interim name) programs come from a wide range of language, cultural and educational backgrounds. Students are taught in classes of about 13 to ensure that their English language, social learning and wellbeing needs are intensively supported. A school-wide student wellbeing strategy ensures that students and their families are welcomed and supported as newly arrived members of their new community

GELS also provides support to build EAL capacity within mainstream schools through the EAL support Cluster program. This program is delivered in schools across the Greater Geelong area. Teachers and Multicultural Education Aides (MEAs) working in this program will be required to travel extensively and may be required to work flexible hours including before and after normal face to face teaching hours.

The Geelong English Language School (interim name) has four main goals.

These are to provide:

¿ A focussed learning environment that maximises learning growth for all students.

¿ A caring learning environment which supports the wellbeing and settlement needs of students and their families.

¿ A supportive and stimulating work environment for all staff that encourages commitment, innovation and excellence.

¿ Professional learning opportunities for mainstream school staff to support newly arrived and EAL students and their families.

Selection Criteria
  1. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of IT infrastructure, including hardware configurations, software operating systems, data transmission networks, and generalised software packages.
  1. Demonstrated capacity to manage the implementation of digital technologies to achieve shared goals and deliver successful project outcomes.
  1. Demonstrated high level communication skills and a capacity to work collaboratively with school staff to imbed ICT strategic priorities of the school.
  1. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement procedures and guidelines relating to ICT.
  1. Demonstrated capacity to work in a multicultural environment.
Role

Attendance - Monday to Friday, 7.6 Hrs per day. The incumbent may be required to attend duty for up to the 30 days additional paid leave period.

The Technology Manager is responsible for maintaining the secure, efficient and continuous operation of the various elements of Informational and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure used at Geelong English Language School (interim name). This position will oversee the efficient and effective operation of the Information Technology (IT) team, under the direction of the Principal.

They are responsible for contributing to the development of an ICT strategy for Geelong English Language School to ensure its activities in this area align with the strategic and operational needs of the school.

Responsibilities

Strategy

Contributing to the development of an ICT plan to support student learning across the college and meet operational needs, with the leadership team.

Facilitating ICT related professional learning and induction to staff.

Researching and evaluating new or emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, suitable for implementation.

Systems & Networking infrastructure

Developing and maintaining the systems architecture, defining standards and protocols for data exchange, communications, software and interconnection of network information systems.

Developing and maintaining system recovery plans in the event of power failure, damage to systems etc.

Overseeing the management, maintenance and deployment of servers and systems, including management of VMware hosts, SANs and all networking infrastructure.

Overseeing the administration of all Windows services including: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, WSUS, SCCM image deployment.

Overseeing the Administration network, desktop & CASES21 support.

ICT infrastructure

Overseeing the IT team in the installation, maintenance, configuration, monitoring, improvement, fault diagnosis and hardware problems relating to all ICT infrastructure.

Management and co-ordination of the staff notebook program.

Management of the school telephone system.

Operational leadership

Leading, developing, supervising and coordinating the work of the IT team.

Managing the IT team resources to meet priorities, monitoring workloads, reviewing progress and outcomes.

Developing and conducting training programs for computer systems users.

Overseeing the installation and configuration of new hardware and software systems.

Overseeing the preparation and technical administration of major assessment and survey systems such as NAPLAN and other systems as they may arise.

Administration, budgets and contracts

Working with the Business Manager to develop and monitor the ICT budget.

Reviewing IT contracts as required, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate.

Maintaining records of contracts and service agreements.

Leading the development, maintenance and communication of ICT related documentation, policies and procedures.

Overseeing relationships with the school¿s ICT vendors.

Security

Maintaining the security and confidentiality of data and passwords in accordance with DET guidelines.

Leading the college response to any IT security issues in accordance with DET guidelines.

At least three years¿ experience in a similar position.

Highly desirable, formal qualifications in IT or relevant experience.

Experience with a range of software, hardware and operations systems.

Proven track record of effective project management.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Proven track record of supervising and mentoring technical employees.

Broad knowledge of industry standards and best practices in the use of technology (preferably in schools or other education settings).
