Yiliyapinya Indigenous Corporation is dedicated to improving the brain health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through evidence-based programs, cultural strengths, and community-led approaches. We deliver programs across schools, youth detention centres, and communities that empower people to understand their brains, build resilience, and strengthen cultural identity.
The Role
We are seeking a passionate and committed Brain Health and Youth Programs Officer (Identified) to join our team. This role will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and families to deliver culturally adapted brain health, wellbeing, and youth development programs.
The Officer will support the design, facilitation, and evaluation of programs that combine neuroscience education with cultural knowledge, empowering young people to make strong choices and improve their health, learning, and futures.
This is an Identified role—it is a genuine occupational requirement that the position be filled by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, in accordance with relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Yiliyapinya's brain health and youth programs (including school-based activities and youth detention centre programs).
- Build strong, respectful, and culturally safe relationships with young people, families, Elders, schools, and community partners.
- Support program design, resource development, and continuous improvement of culturally adapted brain health tools and activities.
- Assist with data collection, reporting, and evaluation to demonstrate program impact.
- Work collaboratively with the Yiliyapinya team to share knowledge and contribute to organisational goals.
About You
You will bring passion and commitment to working with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and an interest in brain health and wellbeing.
Essential:
- Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Demonstrated experience working with children, young people, and/or families in community, health, education, or youth settings.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to engage with young people and community members.
- Ability to work respectfully with Elders and within cultural protocols.
- Willingness to learn about neuroscience and brain health, with support and training provided.
Desirable:
- Degree in speech pathology, psychology, counselling, occupational therapy, community services, health, or education.
- Experience delivering group-based programs or workshops.
- Knowledge of youth wellbeing, mental health, or cognitive development.
