Bindaree Food Group (BFG) is a vertically integrated supply chain business delivering global meat solutions both domestically and internationally and has solidified its position as a prominent leader in the Australian meat industry.

The Livestock Health Leading Hand's primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ensure animals are managed and handled in a humane manner while using appropriate cattle handling techniques
  • Follow animal welfare, quality and safety standards at all times as well as following operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Daily pen riding and general livestock activities: monitor cattle, identify sick cattle, pull and move cattle and treat cattle, water trough cleaning, and maintenance and housekeeping activities.
  • Support to the processing shed: cattle induction, HGP re-pilling, as well as loading and unloading cattle.
  • Complete competency assessment for new staff in horse riding skills and horse abilities and behaviour.
  • Provide training to staff for livestock activities: pen riding, moving cattle, treating cattle, water trough cleaning, and cattle induction and re-pilling, as well as receiving and dispatching cattle.
  • Provide direction and supervise pen riders in the daily livestock activities.
  • Ensure veterinary stock is available in the hospital for cattle treatment and veterinary stock is recorded accurately.

  • Proven livestock skills
  • Horsemanship skills - ability to ride a horse
  • A commitment to animal welfare, health and nutrition
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team
  • Be able to co-ordinate with other team leaders to achieve daily tasks, as well as short and long term goals
  • Flexibility to work within a roster
  • Data recording skills and knowledge of computers
  • Ability to document information where required and read and understand written and verbal instructions as and when required
  • Keep require records e.g. WHS training log
  • Knowledge in machinery operation
