About Us
For over 60 years, Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) has been a leading registered charity dedicated to providing expert care for surrendered, neglected, and abandoned companion animals across NSW.
The Opportunity
Are you an animal lover who thrives in a hands-on environment?
AWL NSW is seeking dedicated Animal Attendants to join our Shelter team and play a vital role in caring for animals in need.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of animals every day — ensuring their health, comfort, and wellbeing while helping them on their journey to finding a loving home.
About the Role
As an Animal Attendant, you will provide daily care and enrichment for animals in our care. You'll work as part of a supportive team to maintain high standards of animal welfare, cleanliness, and customer service. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate, reliable, and enjoys working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
The Animal Attendant may have worked in zoos, veterinary clinics, animal shelters, research facilities, or any other industry that involves animal care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily feeding, cleaning, and enrichment for animals in care
- Monitor animal health and behaviour, reporting any concerns promptly
- Assist with administering medications or treatments as directed
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for all animals
- Safely handle, move, and restrain animals when required
- Support adoption and rehoming activities, ensuring a positive experience for visitors and potential adopters
- Work collaboratively with the wider shelter team to uphold AWL NSW's animal care standards
About You:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working with animals (preferred)
- Knowledge of animal behaviour, nutrition, and basic healthcare
- Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and confidently
- Strong observation and communication skills
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime
- Compassion, patience, and a genuine love for animals
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and procedure
Why You'll Love It Here
