About the Role

Global Business Services - Hire to Retire", together with our partners, aims to deliver accurate, timely and compliant pay with zero errors, across 15 countries, enabling BHP's 'Our Strategy' through process efficiency and flexibility.

Reporting into the Head of GBS HR Payroll, you will be a key part of the global payroll team, a team of forward thinking and engaging professionals that love to work in a high-paced environment. Together, we will redefine, standardize, control and continually improve pay impacting processes globally, whilst you will be accountable for delivering a world-class payroll to our employees in Australia.

  • As the Payroll Manager – Australia, you will be accountable for all payroll activities, ensuring the payroll processes / technology are 'fit for purpose', whilst maintaining global consistency where possible. More specifically, your role will include:
  • Accountable for payroll processing in Australia, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant pay, including base pay, stock compensation, payroll taxes, pension, statutory and supplemental benefits.
  • Continually identifying and assessing risks, making data driven decisions, using BHP's risk management framework to build a risk aware culture to ensure safe and compliant performance outcomes in an increasingly complex statutory and regulatory landscape.
  • Proactive engagement with multiple senior stakeholders, 3rd party providers, regulators & tax authorities.
  • Leading & supporting all team members through the implementation of all change impacting Australia payroll, including the implementation of BHP's Global Payroll Strategy.
  • Fostering innovation of ideas and initiatives across payroll to drive continuous improvement to streamline and optimize operational effectiveness.
  • Driving team performance to build a high performing culture and to continually improve team and individual capabilities and engagement.
  • Applying an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance.

About You

  • Significant experience of leading a large-scale payroll with detailed operational & regulatory experience of Australia payroll.
  • Deep experience of identifying operational risk and implementing controls to mitigate such risk within payroll.
  • Payroll vendor management experience.
  • Experience of leading &/or executing payroll projects (e.g. payroll outsourcing, implementation of local regulatory changes).
  • Experience of empowering, coaching, and mentoring colleagues to ensure the team's objectives can be achieved.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, facilitation & stakeholder management skills across all levels of management.
  • Sound judgmental skills to identify and resolve challenges and issues that protect and enhance BHP's values, reputation, and commercial interests.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Fluent in English
  • SAP payroll experience (preferred).
  • LEAN and/or Six Sigma Accreditation (preferred).
