About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Payroll Manager and working in a collaborative and supportive team, key responsibilities of the role are as follows:
- Monitor the accuracy of all payroll, position and leave related data in the payroll system to ensure data integrity for management and external reports.
- Accurately process fortnightly and monthly pay for EA and Award staff.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Australian payroll legislation, including the Fair Work Act, the Employee Relations Act, Awards, taxation laws, superannuation guarantee, and state-specific payroll requirements (e.g., workers' compensation).
- Liaise with finance regarding payroll costing adjustments including updating necessary records and assisting with tax issues to deliver accurate financial monitoring and reporting.
- Respond promptly and professionally to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters.
- Updating and maintaining payroll records.
- Process termination payments accurately and in compliance with Australian employment law.
- Contribute to payroll system upgrade and improvement projects.
- Leave, tax, superannuation and termination pay calculations.
- Interpret Enterprise Agreements and Awards.
- Process timesheets and hours for casuals via the Time and Attendance system.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to internal controls under relevant regulations.
Skills & Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, i.e. Business, Finance, etc.
- Experience working in the healthcare, aged care or community services sector, ideal but not mandatory.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance within the Australian context.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll information clearly to employees and stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive payroll data according to privacy laws.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet strict payroll deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
