Injury Management Specialist
Support recovery, enhance safety, and make a real impact at Victoria's largest public health service.
About the Role
We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Injury Management Specialist to join our Health, Safety and Wellbeing team. In this full-time hybrid position, you will play a pivotal role in supporting employees recovering from work-related injuries and illnesses—ensuring safe, sustainable return-to-work outcomes while minimising risk to both the individual and the organisation.
Reporting to the Injury Management Lead, you will work closely with internal stakeholders including leaders, managers, HR, and external partners such as WorkSafe agents, healthcare providers, and treating practitioners. Your expertise will contribute to our proactive injury management approach, focusing on early intervention, tailored recovery plans, and effective claims management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert, evidence-based guidance to injured employees regarding their recovery and workers compensation claims.
- Develop and implement safe and appropriate return-to-work plans aligned with clinical advice, legislative requirements and Monash Health policy.
- Collaborate with managers and treating health professionals to ensure recovery goals are well supported in the workplace.
- Educate and coach leaders on their role in supporting safe recovery at work, reinforcing a culture of care and accountability.
- Strategically manage complex claims and high-risk cases to reduce recovery times and mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in injury management and safety systems, identifying opportunities for innovation and better practice.
About You
You are a confident, empathetic professional with a strong safety mindset and a commitment to employee wellbeing. You thrive in a dynamic healthcare environment and understand the importance of clear communication, timely intervention, and teamwork in managing injury and recovery.
You will bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Allied Health (Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Rehabilitation Counselling, Nursing or similar).
- 3-5 years' experience in occupational rehabilitation, injury management, or workers compensation claims management.
- A comprehensive understanding of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and related frameworks.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to manage sensitive conversations and provide clear guidance.
- The ability to remain compassionate and professional when supporting employees through physical or psychological recovery.
- A current driver's licence and the flexibility to travel across Monash Health sites as required.
What We Offer
As part of the Monash Health team, you'll enjoy the benefits of working with a large, integrated health service, where safety, support, and continuous development are priorities.
You'll have access to:
- A supportive and experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing team.
- Flexible hybrid work arrangements.
- Ongoing professional development, mentoring and leadership opportunities.
- Access to in-house learning resources and external conferences.
- Salary packaging to increase your take-home pay.
- Onsite staff amenities including discounted parking, gym, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
