About SafeWork NSW
SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to protect NSW workers by preventing and reducing work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation.
SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator.
About the Team
The Strategy, Planning, Programs & Evaluation team operates within the Policy, Practice and Programs Directorate under SafeWork NSW's Strategic & Corporate Services Division. We play a key role in enabling SafeWork NSW to be a strong, transparent, accountable, and responsive work health and safety regulator. Our team supports organisational strategy and planning, including through the Annual Regulatory Statement, and provides organisation-wide project and program evaluation support.
About the Role
The Project Evaluation Officer is responsible for leading assigned projects end-to-end aimed at building understanding and capability of SafeWork NSW staff to monitor, review and evaluate programs and projects consistently and effectively. This role will proactively engage with subject matter experts and stakeholders across the business to inform the design and delivery of monitoring and evaluation resources, workshops, training, and will evaluate projects under guidance.
The role also involves coordinating and contributing to evaluation projects from the planning stage— including procurement and management of external evaluators when required—through to analysis and reporting. It will also support the development of training materials, facilitate workshops, assist in eLearning design, and provide consultation to teams undertaking evaluative practice, all under appropriate supervision. This role may also offer direct assistance in the delivery of evaluation projects, thereby contributing to a comprehensive evaluation culture within SafeWork NSW.
Key Responsibilities
Lead assigned projects to build evaluation capability across teams by delivering training, coaching, facilitating workshops, and developing practical resources.
Contribute to the delivery and implementation of the Monitoring and Evaluation Outcomes Framework (MEOF) to ensure alignment with organisational goals.
Promote and support best practice monitoring and evaluation methods and tools across SafeWork NSW projects and programs.
Conduct evaluations of SafeWork NSW initiatives to assess their effectiveness and efficiency in line with the NSW Treasury guidelines, including the development and review of evaluation plans, program logic and evaluation reports.
Provide expert advice on selecting meaningful impact and outcome metrics and produce evaluation reports with actionable recommendations aligned to organisational objectives.
Proactively engage with stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships and support compliance with governance, quality, and ethical standards in monitoring and evaluation.
To be successful in the role, you will preferably have:
Experience in monitoring, capability-building and conducting evaluation.
Ability to provide advice and coaching to build monitoring and evaluation capability across diverse teams.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with a collaborative approach.
Sound project management skills and experience managing multiple evaluation activities to deliver outcomes.
Demonstrates a strong customer focus with a flexible, solutions-oriented mindset, consistently applying scalable and fit-for-purpose approaches to meet diverse needs efficiently and effectively.
A positive and inclusive mindset, and commitment to SafeWork NSW's values and goals.
