The Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) was established in 2008 in response to community demand from Indigenous families who choose to enrol their children in boarding schools.
Bringing together the government and private sector, AIEF provides scholarship funding for Indigenous students to complete Year 12 or tertiary studies, with career support to help them make a successful transition to further study and employment.

Reporting to the Director – Communications and Engagement and working within a close-knit team, the Manager – Communications and Events will lead the development and execution of strategic communications and events that elevate AIEF's reputation, engage stakeholders and support organisational goals.
This role oversees AIEF's branding and reputation, internal and external communications and maintains effective relationships with major partners and stakeholders. It also involves managing team members to deliver high-quality, consistent and impactful communications and events.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Communications: Lead the development and execution of multi-channel communication strategies including social media, digital content and stakeholder engagement.
- Content Creation: Draft and edit high-quality written content for internal and external audiences including newsletters, blog posts, social media, website, speeches and reports.
- Brand and Reputation Management: Oversee AIEF's branding, style guide and reputation across all platforms and materials.
- Digital Storytelling: Manage photo and video libraries, support the production of visual content and contribute to compelling digital storytelling initiatives.
- Event Management: Plan and deliver impactful events that engage stakeholders and elevate AIEF's profile.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and support communications and events team members to ensure consistent high-quality output.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with major partners and stakeholders ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Reporting and Administration: Ensure data accuracy for reporting and evaluation and provide administrative support as needed.
About You
You're a strategic communicator with a passion for storytelling and a talent for crafting clear engaging content. With at least five years' experience in communications, marketing or media, you know how to lead campaigns, manage teams and deliver high-quality work across multiple channels.
You're process-focused and detail-oriented, with strong writing and editorial skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once. You bring structure and precision to everything you do — whether it's producing a report, coordinating an event or developing digital content.
You're confident working with stakeholders, guiding team members and maintaining brand consistency. Most importantly, you're motivated by purpose and excited to contribute to AIEF's mission of empowering young Indigenous Australians through education.
Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Media, Marketing or a related field
- Minimum 5 years' experience in communications, journalism or a related discipline
- Proven success in leading communications strategies and managing teams
- Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills across digital and traditional platforms
- Strong attention to detail and a process-focused approach to managing multiple project
- Demonstrated experience in media relations, stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration
- Familiarity with social media platforms, content management systems and digital content production
- Design skills and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite desirable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CRM systems
- A current Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
