The role
As a Ministerial and Parliamentary Liaison Officer, within the Office of the Secretary, you'll be the trusted source of advice and coordination for ministerial and parliamentary correspondence across the Department. You'll support the Secretary, Ministers, and Divisions by preparing and reviewing high-quality briefings and advice - especially those that are urgent, sensitive, or high-impact - while ensuring everything aligns with government policies and political frameworks.
This role calls for someone who can juggle competing priorities under pressure, triage information, synthesise complex information into readable material, maintain accuracy across complex workflows, and navigate sensitive communication channels with confidence. You'll be central to improving systems and processes, building strong relationships, and helping the Department stay responsive and compliant in a fast-moving, politically aware environment.

What you will bring to the role
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey complex material, ideas and collaborate with team members.
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills, fostering strong relationships and ensuring alignment with diverse stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
- Meticulous attention to detail amidst high-volume workloads, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks and deliverables.
- The ability to shift between written and coordination tasks, as required.
- Ability to interpret and apply evolving government policies and political frameworks to ensure compliant and context-sensitive outputs.
Key knowledge and experience
- Demonstrated understanding of government and public administration, legislative, and the role of Minsters and agencies in Government.
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience in a similar role.
